Saturday, October 30, 2004 I had sushi, and edamame, and garlic string beans, and hummus, and endive with goat cheese, and mousse of duck liver. Wow! Then it was off to 50 Mason where the crowd was surprising large for the Saturday before Halloween. Eli was there, and we hung. Also Chantal Carrere, another of my favorites, was headlining, but I didn't stick around. I had a really good set, so did Eli, and we decided to head back to our respective loves. Wednesday, October 27, 2004 What fun! I got to do a guest set at the San Francisco Punchline in front of Maria Bamford. If you don't know who she is, you'll want to find out. I had the veggies and dip, but mostly ate the carrots. I wonder what they did with the rest? I should have brought it home to compost. I had a great set, and I'm so happy that Ron, Jordan, Sean, Sammy, Crosby and Andrea were there. Maria said I have great stage presence, and she thinks it's neat that I talkabout my bipolar disorder on stage. Maria likes me! Maria likes me Tuesday, October 26, 2004 I think I had some left-overs or something. Not too memorable. Actually, I just remembered that it was a mini pizza. Decent. I was hosting at Blue Rock Shoot, and some of my favorite comedians were there: Howard and Reannie! Reannie and I cracked each other up. The stroke victim didn't find her too humorous. She's into my slug stuff. I swear I'm going to make that work! Howard had some issue too, and a great set. Wednesday, October 20, 2004 I actually didn't have dinner. Shame on me. I was hosting the open mic at Rooster T. Feathers. It was fun, because I kept giving the audience updates about the Yankees-Red Sox Game 7 of the ALCS. Easy applause break. Everyone hates the Yankees. Except damn Yankee fans. Note to comedians: Not a good idea to first suck up all the air in the room with your act, then proceed to get stinking drunk, bother everyone, heckle, and talk really really loud until you are asked to leave. Not a smart career move. You know who you are. Tuesday, October 12, 2004 Blue Rock Shoot. All-female comedy showcase. Edo came along and we each had a "personal pizza." Frankly, I thought mine was getting a little too personal with the comments about my weight, but it was still delicious. I had a Blue Hawaiian, which is basically a Hawaiian with blue cheese. Aren't you glad you didn't have to kiss me that night? Everyone had a great set. I tried my new moth sex party material, and it actually worked. Go figure. Now it will never work again. Not in this town. Monday, October 11, 2004 This was a private gig for a start up company called Media Mob TV. The hosts were really great, and there was so much food! I helped myself to a couple of deviled eggs (mmmmmmmm) and some drumettes. In high school the most popular girl was a majorette. I was a math majorette. It was great fun, although a small audience. They were very appreciative, and the whole thing was filmed. I can't tell you more than that without violating the NDA I had to sign. Saturday, October 9, 2004 Since this was an afternoon gig, I'll tell you about lunch instead of dinner. Edo and I both enjoyed a bratwurst sandwich at the Cupertino Oktoberfest celebration. The stuff that passes for German food in this country is amazing. I suppose its like people who think Taco Bell is Mexican food. My folks belong to a "German club" which is just a restaurant and bierstuebel. They serve like hotdogs there and call them bratwurst. What a country. Anyway, back to the gig. Yet another lawn gig. What can I say? The audience seemed to be pleasantly amused at the fact that I was standing there talking, but I couldn't really say that they seemed to enjoy the act itself. They were waiting for the polka music to start up again. It was fun, but Anheiser Busch at an Oktoberfest? Give me a break. Thursday, October 7, 2004 I had a Subway Sandwich that lasted most of the day, so that was kind of dinner. The event was an SFCC All-Stars show at SF Comedy Club at 50 Mason. It was a special free performance where the group made a demo tape. Everyone had an awesome set, with Kurtis "Jett" Matthews closing the show. I love working with these guys. Unfortunately, for business reasons, this was my last performance with the SFCC All-Stars, now known as "The New Pawns of Comedy." I love and respect all of these comedians, so if you come across them somewhere, please support this troupe of really great comedians. Of course, only if I'm not performing somewhere that night :-) Sunday, October 3, 2004 Back to Roosters for the Sunday show with Al Madrigal and Pete Gray. Had to work a little harder for the laughs tonight, but it was still a good show overall. Pete and I spent some time watching the three positions of the woman right up front who really didn't seem to want to be there. Get this: the winner of the prize was some old bored guy who hated every one of us, and said so on his comment card! I should have read that out loud. Oh, I had veggie riblets and tater tots for dinner. Good enough. By the way, you can watch a great clip of Pete Gray's comedy by visiting www.omnipop.com, click on Comedy, then find Pete's name on the list. There's a Realplayer video there of him on the Late Night with Craig Kilborn show. Funny stuff. Friday, October 1, 2004 What a blast! I had some sort of random leftover (oh yeah! It was the mah po tofu I made the day before! Delish!) then headed to Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club to host two shows. It was an awesome night. Al Madrigal and Pete Gray were just great. They both spent some time talking to me about comedy and giving me advice. What's the plural of mensch? Al looked cute with his little yellow umbrella in his hair second show. Thanks to Edo, Kurtyka, Dale, James, Bill and Sharon for coming out to support.
