What's for Dinner?

Fun Stuff

Second official gig for the All-Stars. I had brocolli cheese quiche. Bob was there. It was fine.

Clam strips. Reminds me of travelling across the U.S. as a child, and every road side restaurant served clam strips, even if there was no ocean nearby. They always have way more bread than seafood, and you get to dip them into things, which I think is why kids love 'em. Or at least why I loved 'em. Great show at Beale St. First official All-Star gig, although Bob Brindley was missing. Small audience, but we rocked. It will take some time before we start to get a regular audience, but those that do see us will know they are witnessing history.

Ummm, Wienerschnitzel. I hate admitting that. The Cool Brews for Cool Pools festival was competing with the Garlic Festival, so the crowds weren't stellar, but they were fun. I performed on a huge stage that was about a mile from the audience. I could hear faint laughing ringing in the distance. Could it have been coming from the Gilroy Garlic Festival? Thanks to Michael Riley for hooking me up. I really did have a nice time. And, I got to drink several dfferent kinds of beer. In the sun. Very economical.

This time I had a hotdog at the club. Rooster T. Feathers again. This time for the Chicks are Funny Showcase kicking off the Women's Comedy Festival at Rooster T. Feathers. Everyone had a great set. It was an awesome show, and I got a great tape out of it. Alex and Dave were there to support, and got to see a great show. It was a nice date night for them. Mari rocked with her ghost material, and Chantal really stirred everyone up. Slappy was our honorary chick, emceeing the show.

Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club, Sunnyvale. Yet again, I didn't really have dinner. And I LOVE dinner, so this is bad. But, I did have a BRC with black beans at about 4 pm, so that counts, I guess. This was an SFCC Graduation Showcase night, and I was the emcee! That's my microphone, beyotch! Edo was there to support and tape, so thanks to him. All the comedians were great, and I hardly ever had to stop a comedian in the middle of joke because they were going too long and not paying attention to the little red light that tells them that it is time to stop. Which is good for the show, but bad for me because I love playing those kinds of games.

SF Comedy Club at 50 Mason, San Francisco, CA. Dinner was a lousy bacon swiss crispy (don't ask me crispy what!) that I paid too much for. I had two great sets! First at a 5 pm San Francisco Comedy College graduation showcase -- those are so fun! -- where I had the pleasure of closing the show with one of daddy's favorite bits (bipolar girlscout). Daddy knows how to bring me off the stage. Later, I was in the 8 pm show hosted by Susan Alexander. Saw two new comedians I'd never met before. One was from Looo-si-anna. I had a great set complaining about battling slugs.

Montclair Women's Cultural Art Club, Oakland, CA. Supper (not dinner, but supper) consisted primarily of two salads: a tomato, mozzarella, basil salad (there's a name for that: please email me if you know) made with only Cherokee Purple and Green Zebras and a green leafy salad made with Sungold cherry tomatos. Can you tell that our tomato crop came in? At the gig itself I had a lot of guacamole flavored doritos. Very green. I was the emcee for Queer Comedy Night, and although the audience of mostly 40+ aged lesbians seemed to like me at first (they are, after all, my people) they tired of me soon enough. They were so hard to please. Just like women, right? All of the dyke comedians did well. Except for Sean Hetherington. Just kidding, Sean rocked. And I met my first diesel dyke, so that was a thrill. She's 70 and has a Rosie the Riveter tatoo. Powerful.

SF Comedy Club at 50 Mason, San Francisco, CA. I had two meximelts and a root beer. I also purchased an enchirito, but didn't eat it. Bob later deep fried it, but even that didn't make it appetizing. Now it swims with the fishes. The competition was fun because I got to see so many different comedians that I really like, and I saw some brand new ones (at least for me). This was a contest of the type which tends to favor those that have a lot of friends in the audience, but I did think that the funniest people advanced, so I didn't feel gypped when I didn't advance. Whatever! (I'm making a big W with both my hands right now, but that's hard to see on the Internet.

Blue Rock Shoot, Saratoga, CA. Let's see. I had a Southwest Appetizer Combo at Generic Brewpub Grillhouse. Memorable. It was a great show! Tina Allen did an awesome job of putting together a great group of comedians to entertain (mostly) her students in a comedy class. We all kept it strictly PG, and had a blast. The kids asked us for our autographs afterwards, which was totally hilarious. The kids were so great. And their parents were awesome tippers!

A strawberry shake (from a fast food place whose name reminds me of sex that's over in a flash) was my appetizer, then when I got to Luna's I had the guac and chips and some Hefeweizen. That's all the dinner I need. It was a really fun night, even though there were only 3 audience members. There would have been 5, but I think maybe the host was a tad bit harsh with them and they are currently filing a complaint with the Cafe Comedians Guild. I love Scotty Fell. How many times do I have to say that before someone takes me seriously?!? The audience that we did have was great, and was totally ready to laugh. The show went long, but it was such a good show. Did you ever notice that I never tape my best sets, only my worst ones? I've noticed.

Thursday, July 1, 2004

I guess that a handful of corn chips, even if they were fresh from Una Mas about 6 hours before I ate them, doesn't REALLY count as dinner. I also had water. Does it count now? Up to the city for the 50 Mason Showcase. It was basically an all-female show, and that includes the host, Sean. It's not easy to do actual material for only comedians, so we kind of goofed off, which isn't a good idea usually, but what the hell! Sal's buddy Robert was cracking me up! Sean went into a rant about Oprah that was genius!

More dinners . . .
