Friday, February 27, 2004 Caffe Sapore. They also have great food. I always get a Chai or two there. They're pretty good. For dinner I had a bagel with smoked salmon and capers. It was delicious! I was on relatively early for a pretty good crowd. I actually did my manic cheerleader impression and it worked! I guess that's a keeper. Left early because I was miserable, and lucking Seaner came along to drive me the two miles up hill to my car! I hate North Beach! Thursday, February 26, 2004 Bob Brindley in the hosting role. I had a vegetarian burrito, which is delicious there at Beale St. Bar and Grill. Too bad more folks don't show up for the comedy there. It's a great room in a great place with great food and great beer. Maybe the comedy is only good. I don't know. Also, there's no parking around there, at least I've never found any. And you always have to walk past a homeless person or two, which of course makes me uncomfortable since I am a self-proclaimed liberal yet I live in my fancy comfy apartment while these poor people sleep on the street. The only thing we have in common is that we both smell like urine. Wednesday, February 25, 2004 Drove up to Sactown with Mike Lema and Sammy Wegent. Boy the time flies when you can use the carpool lane! It was a small crowd at Luna's, but a nice crowd. Of two. Way to go Mikey! Mike and Sammy and I had Chinese food at Simon's. Doesn't that NOT sound like a Chinese restaurant. Went out afterwards with my buddy Sean (Slack was kind enough to drive Mike and Sammy back home), and we helped some gay team win some gay contest, so we got gay drinks for helping them! It was totally gay. Monday, February 16, 2004 Homemade linguine with clam sauce. Wait a minute, did I say homemade? Yep. I do sometimes actually cook. But of course I had my Boddy's at the Rose & Crown. They had something like 25 comedians scheduled. I was #12. I tried, but I just couldn't hang around for the whole show. My slinky and sexercise jokes went over well. Just the crowd for it. Thursday, February 12, 2004 Fried shimp with french fries and Bass Ale. Beale St. Bar and Grill is one of my favorite places to perform. Tony is great. But whatever happened to the Japanese guy who was in love with me? The comedians were challenged to make a joke involving kitties and boobies, so I said that my psychiatrist's name is Dr. Katzenbreast. It was a fun night. Wednesday, February 11, 2004 Split pea soup and victory! I came in a close second behind the two who tied for first in the Second Annual Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club Amateur Comedy Competition. That means I'll be advancing to the semi final round on Wednesday, April 7. Then, if I make it through that, the next step is the finals on April 28. Send victorious thoughts in my direction, please! Thanks so much to Jimi, Richie, Curt, Lisa, Kate, Mary, John, and Wendy for showing up to support, as well as all my SFCC buddies. You guys rock! Tuesday, February 10, 2004 Chicken sandwich, a few french fries, and a little bit of calamari. It was the SFCC Graduation Showcase at the Improv, and there were too many comedians. So, I volunteered to do a short set, focusing only on my best stuff. It worked. Thanks to Mike, Leslie, Karen, Lisa, Vicki and Larry for showing up to support. The woman in front that we all talked about because she never cracked a smile came up to me afterward to ask how to become part of the SFCC! She said she has plenty of material, but hasn't been on stage. Who'd a thunk it? Saturday, February 7, 2004 It's a long way to Tipperary, and to Victorville, CA. I had the privilege of performing a 20 minute set at the "Comedy Outpost," a monthly gig at the Ramada Inn in the high desert. For dinner I had a steaming chunky bowl of broccoli cheese soup. Thank god it didn't start repeating on me until after the show! Gayla Johnson was awesome, and performed for an hour and half. The Victorvillians seemed to like me. Thanks to Scott Everett Berger and Doug Mortenson for having me. And it was nice to see Beth again too! Friday, February 6, 2004 Don't remember the name of the place, but ate at a really good Vietnamese restaurant just up the street from the Marsh Theater's Mock Cafe. I had prawns in black pepper and lamb curry. Back at the Mock I performed along with Lori Chapman as host, Janie Barbone, Darlene Popovic, Phyllis Dantzler, Blair Butler and Lara Kehoe at No Y Chromosome, a monthly all-female comedy showcase. Usually there's no mic there, but since KPFA was recording the show for an upcoming International Women's Day program (scheduled for March 8, check local listings), we had to hold a mic that provided no amplification in the room. It was weird. And I had to sign a release form. I wonder if KPFA now owns my material? I don't think so. They seem cool. Thanks to all who signed up for my email list! |
