December 26, 2003 Happy Boxing Day! No, it's not the day you box up all your stuff after Christmas. It's the day set aside for giving tips or other beneficences to service people and those of the underclasses. Basically -- ME! Why did I not receive your check yet? Do you have my new address? Anyway, had leftover ham and potatoes for dinner, then headed out to Caffe Sapore for a great night of comedy with almost NO MATERIAL! The audience was primarily other comedians, and we've all seen each other's stuff so often, we just played and told stories and riffed. It was really fun, and freeing. Fantastic performances by Bob Brindley, Sharman Baciagalupi, Susan Alexander, Sean Hetherington, Michael Slack, Reggie Steele, and me. We had a high number of MVPs in the room, and THE WORLD'S GREATEST BROTHER (Michael brought the mug to prove it). A gay time was had by all. Not just the gay ones. Thanks Ricky for being the doorman/supporter and to Ryon and spouse for showing up to support. December 23, 2003 The night of the SFCC Holiday Party. Menu choices were chicken, chicken, or chicken. I had the chicken. Fun-filled night jammed with performances, awards, and love. Special thanks to Leslie R., Michael D., Marlene and Tom S. and of course Jimi for being there to support me. You guys are awesome. And I was awarded a trophy for Most Improved Female Comedian, which I am honored to share with Jane Sotansky -- a really hilarious comedian I had the pleasure of travelling to New York with. December 22, 2003 Brocoli Beef, Honey Walnut Prawns and fried chicken. This at a very unlikely chinese restaurant called Simon's in Sacramento. Great ladies show for the holidays that night (The Ho-Ho-Ho Show, as it were), kicking off the first in the Sacramento Insomnia Series sponsored by the San Francisco Comedy College. All the performers were totally awesome: Simone Alexander, Tanya Hausman, Desiree Tinder, Sami Saifer, Erikka Innes and yours truly. Thanks so much to Jimi and Cheryl for being in the audience to laugh and tape. I have the best stalker in the whole world! December 13, 2003 Garlic and 3 (or 4) cheese pizza at Blue Rock Shoot. Chased down with a Chai Latte. It was delicious, but one of the cheeses was blue cheese, which I love, but not everyone around me did! Also, blue cheese sometimes reminds you later that it was there earlier. Great food item for Alzheimers patients who keep forgetting what they had for dinner. Funny show with a tremendous lineup, including myself, Jonathan Dippert, Michael Slack, Bill Maloney, Sandy Stec, Dan Edwards, Norm Goldblatt and Jeff Applebaum. Even the highly medicated woman up front who I thought was staring at my shoes woke up at the end just in time to add to the tip jar. That's what I call a holiday miracle! December 10, 2003 COOLIO! I scored a sweet gig at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, at a Greg Dean Showcase (thank you Kurtis and the SFCC). Bill Maloney and I drove down together, and had Ahi burritos for dinner (yummy!). At the famous Comedy Store (owned by Pauly Shore's mother), Greg took us on a tour and we had a chance to breathe the air in the "Original Room" where many a famous comedian got their first shot. I can officially say I went on before Robin Williams at The Comedy Store (of course, he was in the Main Stage Room and I was in the Belly Room, but my show started at 8 and his at 9, so I did go on before him). Afterwards Greg Dean, his lovely wife Gayla Johnson (who was also the tremendous MC for the evening) and a few others went out to Mel's Diner, where I had a second dinner of Cobb's Salad. Special thanks to John C. and his wife for showing up and supporting me. Hope you liked the cookies, John! December 9, 2003 Corn fritters, crab cakes and other nibbly bits (along with two -- count 'em two) Mangopolitans at E&O Trading with Sandy Stec. Grrrlz night out before Round 4 of the Battle of the Bay Semis at the San Jose Improv. Then, what a treat, Sandy and I got to "close the show" while the votes were being tallied. I finally got to use my new line: I blew a lot of dough last night. That Pillsbury Pop'n'Fresh is a hellcat in the sack! Thank god I could at least hear Slappy laughing. December 8, 2003 Great dinner at Gordon Biersch in Palo Alto before the Rose & Crown open mic night. I had some sort of Mediterranean salad. Was 17th of 20 and had only 4 minutes. But Zara showed up to support me. Thanks, Zara! Rose & Crown is a challenging venue, but one of the few places with Boddington's on tap, so you KNOW I'll be back there! December 5, 2003 Little munchie things and wine at No Y Chromosome monthly comedy showcase at the Mock Cafe. Was in the audience to support Sandi Selvi, Sharman Baciagalupi, Tina Allen, Jane Barbone and others. Great show with Tom Smith at the door. My festive promotional holiday refrigerator magnets were a big hit. Want one? Send me an email. December 2, 2003 The night of the big Battle of the Bay Semifinals (round 3)! What a night. All the performers were really excellent, and most of them had a lot more experience than I do. I didn't advance to the finals, I didn't really expect that I would, but I felt like I had one of the best performances ever. High LPM (laugh per minute) count. Even have a tape to prove it. Thanks so much to all my friends who showed up to support me -- you guys really made a difference! Thanks! By the way, dinner was artichoke dip and a Sprite, but I mostly didn't eat it because of nerves. |
